Rising to the top of your prospective sport can bear great dividends. Not only does the athlete in question command a significant salary from their team, they can also explore other sources of revenue.

Global brands will always look to associate themselves with the best in the business. That’s why many top sports people actually earn more from their external endorsements than they do from the field of play.

For those at the very top, it’s also possible to become a brand in their own right. That can spawn a number of associated products and here is a list of athletes with their very own clothing lines.

Russell Westbrook: NBA

When he’s not driving his LA Clippers team into the postseason, Russell Westbrook might just be found at the helm of his own clothing business. For now, the 34-year-old Point Guard remains committed to the court where his Clippers team is among the favorites in current NBA playoff odds.

As he starts to look at a career beyond basketball, his clothing brand is one of a number of possibilities for Westbrook to fall back on. Since 2017, Honor the Gift is a range of elevated everyday essentials with an athletic twist.

Honor the Great and Westbrook XO are additional brands that carry the NBA Star’s name.

Tiger Woods: Golf

Tiger Woods isn’t the first golfer to have a clothing brand named after him, but he’s arguably the most iconic. As a major brand ambassador for Nike for many years, the two are a natural fit for the range of items in this collection.

There are two elements to the Tiger range. The first carry simple, classic designs that wouldn’t look out of place on the golf course. The TW logo that accompanies them is a subtle one and it means that the brand can be worn in a leisure setting too.

Woods also lends his name to more fun items that can be loved by children and adults alike. The Tiger that bears the name of this collection is another perfect and natural partner for this great sportsman.

Serena Williams: Tennis

The most recognizable face in modern-day tennis, Serena Williams ensures that her own clothing brand is as individual as the athlete behind it. The collection promises to be strong, sexy, and sophisticated and the original items also came with different motivational slogans.

The current range appears to have more of an emphasis on smart leisure wear and there’s the addition of jewelry and other accessories. It’s as bold as Serena Williams herself and it’s all been a big hit since the launch.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Soccer

While he has struggled in the last 12 months to maintain peak performances on the field, Cristiano Ronaldo’s overall brand continues to thrive. Another important ambassador for Nike, the Portuguese international lends his name to a range of clothing that features his CR7 nickname.

The range of sports leisure wear also carries his ethos - Love to Win, Hate to Lose. This is one of the widest ranges with some of the gear designed to be used in the gym or on the training pitch. Other items can be worn in an everyday setting, but the emphasis on sporty fashion remains.

Steve Nash: Basketball

We come back to the NBA now for one of the most exclusive ranges of clothing. Canadian Steve Nash enjoyed a 20-year career as a player before enjoying a brief spell as the coach of the Brooklyn Nets.

Away from the court, Nash has been attached to a luxury line of clothing that involves a collaboration with the custom suit manufacturer Indochino. The suits that bear the NBA star’s name are made from 100% Merino Wool. They come at a premium, but it’s all for a good cause as all profits go to the Steve Nash Foundation.

Roger Federer: Tennis

A battle against father time and a host of injuries has finally taken its toll on Roger Federer. The Swiss tennis star may have ended his playing career, but there are plenty of outside interests that help to make him one of the highest-paid athletes in history.

Included in Federer’s external focus is a range of clothing via UNIQLO which is referred to as Athleisure wear. The term perfectly sums up that gray area between sportswear and everyday clothing.

All of these athletes have reached the top of their profession and a high profile has allowed them to attract an instant audience for their clothing brands. What is good to see is that all athletes appear to be taking a personal interest in what their name stands for.

Each range mentioned here fits perfectly with the characteristics of the individual athlete. They are also stylish items in their own right, so there is more than one reason why sales are exceptional for everyone involved.
