Today, Sustainable and circular fashion company Dhana Inc. has officially launched its debut collection of signature Circular Memory Jackets. This customizable outdoor jacket is made from sentimental t-shirts and garments submitted by patrons who value sustainable living and want to own their story within the lining of these durable and stylish jackets.

The shell of each jacket is made from deadstock fabric that would otherwise be landfilled, sourced by founder Shamini Dhana, and offers a lining customized with each t-shirt or garment provided. Made for outdoor usage, built-to-last, water-resistant, and weather-friendly, these jackets can be worn in reverse to show off the patchwork that tells your story.

Already, customers have been sporting their jackets as a testament to their devotion to circular living and sustainable fashion. Keeping these t-shirts out of the landfills as well as the material to make the jackets offer a solution for that excess in our closets.

According to the United Nations, the fashion industry produces about 20 percent of global wastewater and is responsible for 10 percent of the world’s carbon emissions. The Ellen MacArthur Foundation estimates that 73 percent of textiles used in fashion – including unsold product – ends up in landfills or is incinerated.

“Fashion’s linear model – with large amounts of non-renewable resources extracted to produce clothes that often are used for only a short time, after which they are landfilled or burned – is not sustainable,”

added Dhana.

“As proud members of the Global Fashion Agenda’s 2020 Commitment, we launch our new line with the firm belief that the new reality of fashion is circular.”

T-shirts usually are given out or purchased at events, much less purchased during an impulsive shopping spree. What this program has done, created by Dhana Inc., is offering an alternative to disposing of those memories and instead including them in a functional and fashionable piece.

More so than not, this is a great way to even spice up your closet with a radiant jacket for those dull rainy days. This jacket is even great to wear inside out. Think of it as a conversation starter.

Dhana Inc. asks customers to provide 10 t-shirts which are then fitted into the lining of the selected jacket colorway. Being mindful of the messaging, you can color-code your selection, and even theme the lining according to your interest, like Shamini herself has done.

“During this time of global crisis, our collective view of fashion is shifting dramatically as people realize the fragility of our health and that of our planet. More and more, consumers are demanding visibility into the making of their garments – wanting to understand how they were made, by whom, and with what. Our new Circular Fashion Collection helps them do just that, while also inviting them to co-create each piece and express their values in the clothes they wear.”

Shamini comments.

She has fitted her jacket to reflect her interest and affinity for biking. Shamini has used t-shirts from 10 rides ranging from Bhutan to Nova Scotia, Glacier National Park to California, India, and Singapore, as well as her cycling jersey from Climate Ride.

Via Dhana’s “Repair or Recycle” policy, customers can send the jacket to Dhana at any time for repairs and 100 percent recyclability. The Dhana Circular Memory Jacket, the highest-end piece in the Dhana Circular Fashion, is made-to-order in the USA at Dhana’s facility in Columbus, Ohio.

Make this a gift to remember or something you can look at and reflect on your life. Become a part of the dialogue when investing in your wardrobe instead of submitting completely to the desires of the design and their vision. This jacket is an heirloom and should be treated as such, so choose your t-shirt selection wisely.
