LE SICILIANE: T-Shirts and Apparel from Sicily
By PAGE Editor
Today we’re discovering a new brand, traveling the world from that country of fine arts—Italy—to the great island full of history and tradition—Sicily. The brand is called Le Siciliane. It’s just a few years old and creates sicilian t-shirts and fashion accessories inspired by the rich traditions of Sicily. But it does so in a completely new, modern, and incredibly refined way.
Their illustrations, truly original, are based on photographs by Palermo-based artist Raffaele Rinaldi, a surrealist photographer who licensed his images to the brand. Surrealism draws on dreams and the subconscious, where anything becomes possible. So the Sicilian women featured on the t-shirts have their eyes closed and dream of a reality that would otherwise be impossible.
Typical Sicilian elements are reimagined depending on the context. For example, Sicilian cannoli, when placed atop the head with rolled-up hair, become women's curlers. The famous Sicilian cassata transforms into a hat, creating images that are both playful and artistic. To achieve this effect, the illustrations have a unique style: they are partially made of graphic elements, such as eyelashes or noses, and partially of photographic elements from the original photos.
In just three years, the brand has become well-known across Sicily, with over 50 retail partners. They produce women's, men's, and children's t-shirts, as well as all kinds of summer accessories like beach towels, Sicilian bags, clutches, women’s fans, scarves and shawls, swimwear and the famous sicilian coppola hats. The brand also offers select pieces of traditional Sicilian ceramics, including the famous Teste di Moro (Moorish heads).
Le Siciliane has become a favorite among tourists from around the world, who find more than just a souvenir—they discover stylish clothing to wear with pride.
We discovered Le Siciliane during a trip to Sicily, as their authorized retailers are located in all of the island’s most beautiful art cities. You’ll find them in Taormina, one of the most popular tourist destinations, as well as in Cefalù, Trapani, Palermo, Catania, and the baroque cities of Noto, Modica, and Ragusa. Naturally, they’re also present on the smaller islands, such as the Aeolian Islands and Pantelleria.
So what makes Le Siciliane stand out from other Sicilian accessory brands? It’s run by a group of artists trained in Italian fine arts academies and in sculpture and painting studios. Today, they offer truly distinctive designs that set them apart.
As mentioned above, Le Siciliane products can be purchased at all authorized retailers in Sicily or, for those farther away, on the website Le Siciliane official website.
