A Night of Justice: Versace and The Clooneys Celebrate Courage at The Albies

LONDON, OCTOBER 3, 2025, the iconic halls of London's Natural History Museum played host to a celebration not of the past, but of the future. Versace, in partnership with The Clooney Foundation for Justice (CFJ), presented The Albies, an annual event dedicated to honouring the courageous individuals who champion equity, equality, and human rights across the globe.
The gala, hosted by Amal and George Clooney, served as a powerful confluence of leaders from human rights, business, entertainment, fashion, and technology. As the lead partner, Versace leveraged its global platform to shine a spotlight on those dedicating their lives to the pursuit of justice, an endeavour intrinsically connected to the house's core values of fearless self-expression and progressivism.
“This evening is a testament to the power of collective action,” the event underscored, highlighting the ongoing partnership between Versace and CFJ, which began in 2023. It was an evening dedicated to community-based efforts and the tangible action required to create a more just world.
The 2025 Honourees: A Global Force for Good
This year’s Albies celebrated a diverse group of changemakers, each a titan in their field.
Fatou Baldeh is a leading voice against female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), which impacts 230 million women globally. A survivor herself, Baldeh founded Women in Liberation and Leadership (WILL) and was instrumental in advocating against a 2024 effort to overturn The Gambia’s ban on the practice.
Jose Rubén Zamora is one of Guatemala’s most respected journalists, known for investigating corruption for over 30-years. After his newspaper published critical reporting about Guatemala’s president, he was arrested, charged with and convicted of money laundering. CFJ’s TrialWatch monitored his trial, grading it an F due to a series of egregious violations. His sentence was overturned in 2023, but he remains in prison awaiting retrial. Both the UN and the Organization of American States have declared Zamora’s present detention to be arbitrary.
Marty Baron exemplifies the value of a free press with his legacy as executive editor of The Boston Globe and The Washington Post. Under his leadership, the Globe exposed the Catholic Church’s cover-up of sexual abuse, while the Post reported on widespread digital surveillance of American citizens.
Melinda French Gates has championed global efforts for women’s health and gender equality for over 25-years, driven by the desire to unlock an equal future for women and girls worldwide. After setting the direction of the Gates Foundation for over two decades, she now leads Pivotal, an organisation that works to accelerate the pace of progress and advance women’s power and influence in the US, and around the world. She helped launch a campaign to end child marriage in partnership with CFJ and the Obama Foundation in 2023.
Darren Walker received The Albies’ lifetime achievement award for his decades of service to philanthropic causes worldwide. As president of the Ford Foundation, he has touched communities with his generosity and determination during a decades-long career that has ranged from building affordable housing in Harlem to funding pioneering global social justice initiatives. An innovative leader, he created the first billion-dollar social bond in US capital markets to stabilise non-profit organisations during the COVID-19 pandemic, and led a $1 billion grantmaking effort to strengthen institutions and amplify their impact.
A Gathering of Support
The honourees were joined by a constellation of influential figures from the arts and culture, all united in their support. Joining Versace in driving awareness of the honourees’ incredible work was Ramla Ali, Baria Alamuddin, Luna Carmoon, Amal Clooney, Bianca Jagger, Graham Norton, Joseph Quinn, Russell Tovey, and Shailene Woodley.
Together, they were accompanied by Versace Creative Officer Dario Vitale, CEO Emmanuel Gintzburger, and Chief Brand Ambassador Donatella Versace.
The Albies continues to build on the legacy of past honourees, including labour leader Dolores Huerta, Filipino journalist Maria Ressa, Congolese doctor and human rights advocate Dr. Denis Mukwege, Yazidi activist Nadia Murad, and the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression. By honouring these brave individuals, Versace and The Clooney Foundation for Justice amplify their vital work, inspiring a new wave of changemakers to take action.
