Better Options Than Ever

Today’s photography options are more cost-effective, convenient, and user-friendly than they’ve ever been. However, getting the hang of features available at your fingertips can still be a bit daunting. Here’s the thing: tech has gotten so advanced that you can roll out of bed, snap a selfie of your face, and apply celebrity-level makeup automatically using an app.

Still, if you’re going to have makeup added to photos, or edit what you were wearing when the picture was taken, you may need to do a little more than just apply the automatic “skin”. There’s a balance, though. With Photoshop, you can edit so extensively it borders on digitized animation. That’s going to take time and skill, though; it’s a bit inconvenient for daily use.

Here we are briefly going to explore five ways you can perfectly edit makeup in social media photos. Keep in mind: part of editing effectiveness will involve getting better pictures to begin with. Even so, you’ve got the option to go back and fix some older pictures. So without further ado, here are some solid editing tips to try.

1. Start With a Strong Picture

You want a good picture, first and foremost. Now that’s not always available, and we’ve got some other tips you can explore to that end; but what makes sense is finding the best pictures to tweak. When you’ve got good lighting, color, and “stillness” in a photo, you’ll be able to do more with it. (Stillness would be a lack of blur. Blurred photos are hard to do anything with.)

2. Lighting Augmentation Can Help

Getting a strong picture from the start will involve careful lighting management. That said, there are digital options to augment illumination out there as well. You can change the “direction” of light, or its “source”, depending on what editing program you’re using. You can also change the type of light in the picture to a degree.

The way light affects the picture will involve shadows. Shadow reduction options are also available in a lot of modern photo editing programs, so don’t rule those out.

3. Use a Makeup Editing App

Makeup can also be edited entirely. Check out the options available through this makeup photo editor to get a partial idea of what’s possible. Essentially, using a hybrid of filter technology and other software associated with photo augmentation, you can get the perfect look in a way that’s surprisingly easy.

4. Consider Using Filters

Now photo filters aren’t quite as effective as makeup editing apps, because they essentially just put a sort of digital “film” over the picture. That said, sometimes the way that digital “film” changes the appearance of the picture is enough. Some filters will smooth out wrinkles, others can get rid of shadows, others just change how colors appear to the eyes.

Some will even make you look like you’re an animated painting. It all depends on the filters you use; it’s a great idea to play around with different options to find those that best fit your preferences. Here’s a link to some filter options you might want to explore.

5. Change Picture Color Schemes

Similar to photo filters are color schemes. Three color options combine to make different hues, then there are grayscale color schemes, sepia-tone options, and the list goes on. Essentially, scroll through available color options on your computer or device to find the one that best brings out whatever makeup you were wearing in the picture.

Getting the Look You Want Easier and Quicker
There are many more photo editing tips and tricks regarding makeup than what was briefly explored here. That said, these five tips can give you quite a lot of control over how your makeup appears in your photos. From digitally adding makeup that was never there to begin with, to augmenting already good photos, there are plenty of options to consider here.

So look into switching up color schemes where appropriate, think about filters, definitely find a makeup photo editing app that you like, augment lighting where appropriate, and try to take strong photos to begin with. Following these steps will help you get the best results in every social media photo, whether it’s an old one or a new one.
