Levi’s and Jordan Brand: Two Icons Cut from the Same Cloth
By PAGE Editor
Greatness attracts greatness—and when Levi’s and Jordan Brand come together, the result is less about spectacle and more about substance. A shared language of craft, culture, and conviction anchors their latest collaboration, one that reframes greatness not as a distant peak, but as something lived daily, stitched into community, movement, and self-expression.
Rooted in San Francisco and born on the court, Levi’s® and Jordan Brand have long existed at the intersection of function and myth. Their newest collaborative collection continues that dialogue, bringing heritage denim craftsmanship into conversation with basketball legacy and the enduring codes of street culture. It is a study in how two brands—embraced by artists, athletes, skaters, musicians, activists, and dreamers alike—continue to evolve without losing their soul.
The Air Jordan 3, Recut in Denim and Memory
At the center of the collection is a reimagining of one of sneaker history’s most revered silhouettes: the Air Jordan 3. Through four distinct colorways, Levi’s® and Jordan Brand explore how material, place, and story can reshape an icon without dulling its edge.
The Rigid colorway is the purest expression of Levi’s® heritage, wrapping the upper in premium indigo denim and grounding it with black-on-black elephant print—an understated nod to the AJ3’s original visual language. The Black iteration leans into refinement, pairing pebbled black leather with black denim panels that reveal subtle grey undertones, finished with a sail midsole and an embroidered black denim heel tab featuring Nike Air branding—an unprecedented construction detail.
Cultural specificity takes center stage with the Year of the Horse colorway, launching exclusively for Lunar New Year in Greater China, Japan, and Korea. Unbleached ecru denim, premium pony hair panels, jacquard detailing, and red chain stitch embroidery reading “Year of the Horse” create a tactile homage to tradition and renewal. Meanwhile, the LA Exclusive, arriving during NBA All-Star Weekend, offers a polished West Coast interpretation, combining pebbled leather with strategic blue denim accents and interior embroidery reading “City of Angels.”
Across all four, shared signatures unify the designs: the Levi’s® Red Tab on the right shoe, classic Jumpman branding, and red insoles stamped with Levi’s® dollar bill artwork declaring, “This is a pair of Levi’s®.”
Apparel Where Sport Meets Denim Heritage
Beyond footwear, the nine-piece apparel offering extends the collaboration’s ethos into a full wardrobe—where athletic silhouettes are reworked through Levi’s® material intelligence and archival storytelling.
The Levi’s® x Jordan Football Jersey sets the tone with cropped, boxy proportions in glossy polyester, contrasted by matte and gloss red panels and a co-branded jock tag merging the Wings logo with Levi’s® iconic Two Horse emblem. At the collection’s apex stands the Pinnacle Varsity Jacket, a maximalist statement rendered in leather sleeves, melton wool, and quilted satin lining, layered with vintage-inspired graphics pulled from both brands’ archives—including a cowboy-riding-bull patch that subtly references Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls legacy.
Denim classics are reinterpreted throughout: the Type III Trucker arrives in black-washed denim with an oversized Wings logo across the back yoke; the Overshirt Jacket uses rinsed indigo denim with stylized construction and Levi’s® pigskin detailing; and the Fleece Zip Hoodie delivers heavyweight comfort in a vintage black wash with co-branded artwork and a two-way zip.
A cultural callback anchors the Short Sleeve Shirt, which revives Levi’s® iconic ‘90s “Button Your Fly” graphic—immortalized through Spike Lee’s groundbreaking campaign. Its return here reinforces Levi’s® deep creative lineage while situating it firmly in the present.
Built to Move: Bottoms and Finishing Touches
The Black Baggy Jean, based on Levi’s® 578™ block, is designed with an extended inseam to exaggerate stacking over the Air Jordan 3, finished with aged black denim, embossed Wings branding, and co-branded details. The Baggy Shorts echo the same ethos in rinsed indigo, cut with deep pleats and sitting well below the knee. Completing the lineup, the Denim Cap blends utility and polish with direct Air Jordan embroidery, Levi’s® Red Tab detailing, and Nike Air–branded antique brass hardware.
A Campaign Grounded in Community
Styled by Cam Hicks, the campaign unfolds in a public park—a deliberate choice that reflects the collection’s core belief: greatness lives where people show up daily for their craft. The cast spans generations and disciplines, from legendary filmmaker Spike Lee to bucket drummer Jay Wright, son of Larry Wright from the original “Button Your Fly” campaign. Skater Josh Velez, artist Rio Amor, and a Tai Chi group wearing the Year of the Horse colorway round out the narrative, each embodying dedication over spectacle.
Denim becomes the visual throughline, connecting disparate practices and perspectives, reinforcing the idea that greatness isn’t reserved for the spotlight—it’s built through consistency, authenticity, and community.
A Shared Legacy, Worn Forward
“Reimagining the Jordan 3 through a Levi’s® lens allowed us to celebrate both brands’ deep connections to subcultures around the world,” says Leo Gamboa, VP of Collaborations at Levi’s®. And that sentiment resonates throughout the collection: a reminder that while icons are born from singular moments, they endure by evolving with the people who wear them.
The Levi’s® x Jordan collection launches globally on February 20 via Levi.com, the Levi’s® App, and select Levi’s® stores. Regional and event-specific releases follow, including Lunar New Year, Super Bowl LX in San Francisco, and NBA All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles—each reinforcing that greatness, much like denim, only gets better with time.
