Slow Factory Foundation educates willing participants on sustainable fashion and circular processes, whether for purely sartorial reasons or for social and political prowess. Opening another session of its Open Edu education institute for the summer, the 501c3 public organization is creating a curriculum with the vintage luxury reseller - `Maison de ‘thrift’ - Vestiaire Collective, the leading global app for “pre-loved” fashion.

With the launch of their “Collective For Change,” Vestiaire Collective has taken the initiative that connects those who are a voice for innovation and sustainable fashion within a global community of fashion “lovers.” Also a platform for inclusivity, Vestiaire Collective will feature sustainability experts who share insight and provide advice and solutions on their Instagram @vestaireco.

While Slow Factory also offers an independent research lab, new media platform, and a granting & empowerment fund, they are involved in many aspects of sustainability. Slow Factory is teaming with Vestiaire Collective in educating those on climate change and the effects through fashion. Continuing previous Open Edu programs, this Summer semester’s courses will be an open invitation. Slow Factory and Vestiaire Collective will conduct lessons for those who want to get a head start on the coming fashion seasons, curated around the importance of sustainable fashion.

During August 2021, Slow Factory and Vestiaire Collective will host a global classroom audience over three weeks. There are a total of three different classes with a curriculum in sustainable fashion solutions and innovative ideas.

The History of Fast Fashion: How did this system take over? will be facilitated by writer, stylist, and sustainable fashion consultant Aja Barber. The Culture of Disposability: How did we make throwing good things away part of our culture? will be taught by Céline Semaan, the founder of Slow Factory Foundation and one of the two hosts of the first sustainable news source, All Of The Above TV. The History of Resale Markets: Throwing away clothes for a living will be thought-provoking and a self-reflective lesson instructed by Liz Ricketts, the co-founder & director of The OR Foundation.
