If you talk to older folks, a lot of them will tell you that their teenage years were some of the most exciting ones, because they were full of discoveries, thrilling moments, getting to experience certain things, and so much more.

But it’s also worth mentioning that these years are very fragile, as well. This is the period during which these young people go through massive changes, transitions, self-discovery, self-doubt, and it’s safe to say that ups and downs are a huge part of it.

During this period of time, many of them start going through a range of emotions, such as depression, anxiety, isolation, and many others. Sadly, this isn’t the topic that’s discussed enough, which is a shame because that’s one of the surefire ways not only to introduce them to these challenges, but help them become more aware of how essential mental health is.



The Importance Of Mental Health

Many older people are aware of how crucial mental health is; however, that unfortunately isn’t the case with younger generations, in this case, teenagers. At times,s it seems as if they don’t take things seriously as far as this goes.

It’s essential for them to get a better understanding of it because they are the ones who are prone to experiencing a variety of different emotions and changes at once. Feeling depressed, misunderstood, sad, anxious, and many other things is completely normal and something that most young people go through.

However, what is concerning is when they allow these emotions to take over, not allowing them to function normally. And that’s something they still aren’t aware of because they are too young to understand that. Generally speaking, the pressure is massive for a lot of different things, not only the ones that are related to their appearance, success, etc.

Precisely this level of pressure can negatively influence them, making them feel even more insecure and emotionally and mentally unstable. It’s pivotal to talk to them in these situations to make sure they aren’t failing anyone in any way.



The Stigma That Surrounds Mental Health

One of the main reasons why so many teenagers aren’t taking things seriously when it comes to mental health, or they simply aren’t familiar with it enough, is due to the stigma that surrounds it, which is pretty unfortunate.

A lot of them face judgment and criticism whenever they try to talk about their problems or feelings, in general. They are oftentimes convinced that they’re supposed to be strong or deal with their issues on their own, which is definitely wrong.

Those who are in touch with their mental health, luckily, do not experience any of these things because they know how detrimental it can be. They know when it’s time to seek help from someone who can understand what they are experiencing.

The bottom line is that it’s important to work on this stigma and to do whatever it takes to decrease it as much as possible. Whenever these young people feel sad, depressed, or whatever, they need to know that it’s okay to feel that way, and that they can always talk to somebody, like their parents, therapists, teachers, or whoever is going to help them cope with it.

Living in today’s world is anything but easy and simple, particularly for these young people, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways they can be provided with the necessary help and guidance they deserve.
