The legalization of marijuana in New York City is no longer debated under a new law. It’s a hot topic all over the world.

Even though a lot of influential countries have now legalized medical as well as recreational use there is still much talk about whether this herb should be given the green light. The people who support the legalization do so on the backing of some very strong scientific claims.

The use of cannabis has proved to be quite useful in fighting a lot of psychiatric disorders which were mostly treated with heavy pharma pills. Let’s discuss a few of these disorders with their relation to marijuana.

Anxiety

It is now a well-known fact that patients with anxiety are often recommended medical marijuana to help improve their disorder. Before the legalization, a lot of studies went into the effects marijuana has on the brain of smokers. The studies showed that cannabis had a positive effect on the parts of the brain that were known to cause anxiety. Strains like royal highness are mostly recommended to fight anxiety

Depression

A psychiatric disorder, depression was not taken seriously till a few years ago. Only recently it is being seen as a very widespread problem and is now recognized as a proper mental health condition. With the backing of many brain studies, the use of marijuana was slowly being suggested by many doctors.

A lot of high-end Sativa strains help cure depression by affecting specific parts of the brain. A lot of researches suggest that marijuana can help change the brain pathways and neural connections that make our depressive thoughts so embedded. Countless studies have proven that prescribing weed along with cognitive behavioral therapy has helped 55% of patients see long-term results and progression in therapy.

PTSD

A condition that is known to cause nightmares, panic attacks, hypervigilance,  and emotional instability, PTSD is still not a very well recognized mental condition. Patients suffering from PTSD have been claiming for decades that the use of Marijuana helps them fight some very serious effects of the disorder.

Through the combined effects of many researchers, many strains of quality weed are now being suggested to patients. Weed is known to have calming and relaxing effects due to the presence of THC and CBD, which is very helpful in fighting intrusive thoughts and memories, a common symptom of this disorder.

Insomnia In The City

Cannabidiol has certain properties that help in dealing with the inability to sleep or inability to stay asleep. At least 40% of people worldwide have certain sleep problems that are lost for two weeks or longer. Factors such as stress, work, nutrition, and happiness can affect our sleeping patterns.

Apart from keeping a good sleep hygiene routine, you can also use weed or even edibles and CBD oil to help you relax at the end of a tough day. Studies have shown that marijuana helps reduce REM sleep which means that you will have a dreamless and long sleep.

There has been a lot of advancement in the methods that we use for treating mental disorders. NYC is open for recreational marijuana and the town couldn’t be more at ease about it. Unconventional methods of treatment are progressing and weed is one of the top contenders among them.
