We never tire of proving that fashion exists everywhere — far beyond the four well-known fashion capitals.

Year after year, we continue to discover unexpected places on the world fashion map. Following China, Turkey, South Korea, and countries in Africa and Eastern Europe, we went in search of inspiration in... Brazil.

And we discovered 5 truly fashionable brands that are definitely worth your attention — and capable of competing with the flagships of the fashion market. Here's everything you need to know about them.

Ateliê Mão De Mãe

This brand has a sentimental story behind it. Its name translates from Portuguese as ‘mother's hands atelier’. This is because the mother of one of the founders, Lucien Santana, collaborates with the brand.

She acts as both a co-author and muse for her son Vinicius and his creative and business partner Patrick Fortuna. Luciene crochets, which is why all of the brand's collections are based on the crochet technique.

Everything is made using this technique, from dresses, tops and skirts to shoe decorations. In Brazil, crocheting skills are traditionally passed down from mother to daughter, making it a symbol of maternal love and care.

Thanks to this touching background, handcrafted work and fashionable designs, the brand has already won the hearts of Brazilian celebrities, who often appear in public wearing its clothes. The brand also presented its collection at Milan Fashion Week.

Misci

Airon Martin's path to a career in the fashion industry was long and thorny. Before founding his clothing brand, he tried his hand at law, medicine and industrial design. But he realised in time that he was actually drawn to fashion.

This has been the case since childhood: even at school, he would sketch dresses in his notebooks and imagine how his relatives would wear them.

However, in the end, the Misci brand did not start with women's clothing, but with men's clothing. And furniture: this is where his background in industrial design came into play. Today, he also produces women's collections. All Misci items are based on Brazilian craft techniques and are designed to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the designer's native country. He also gravitates towards complex, deconstructed silhouettes and often uses photo prints.

Neriage

The name of this brand refers to a complex technique of ceramic production, in which different shades of clay are mixed to achieve a ‘marble’ effect. In a sense, the brand's founder, Raffaella Caniello, does the same thing. However, she does not use clay, but rather a wide variety of cultural and artistic references.

She skilfully juggles genres and styles, as well as references from the world of art. Her signature technique is elegant, delicate pleating, which she uses to create dresses and even trouser suits. The designer has also collaborated with Levi's.

Lucas Leão

Lucas Leão's approach to creating clothing is similar to the craft of a sculptor. With the help of complex drapery, he ‘sculpts’ the silhouette as if he were working with clay rather than fabric. In addition, he often uses unexpected materials and constructions such as plastic, metal, wood and concrete, from which he creates both decorations and entire garments. Many of his pieces resemble art objects rather than the clothing we are accustomed to: for example, sculptural tops, which are considered the hallmark of the young brand.
