Adidas Originals x Willy Chavarria SS25: A Collaboration Rooted in Culture and Sport
By PAGE Editor
The adidas Originals x Willy Chavarria SS25 collection is a powerful fusion of streetwear aesthetics and athletic heritage, blending Chavarria’s bold, socially conscious design language with adidas’ sportswear legacy. The partnership celebrates Chicano culture, community, and self-expression, paying homage to the deep connection between adidas and urban subcultures.
A Modern Take on Classic Silhouettes
At the heart of the collection is the revival of the archival adidas Jabbar sneaker, originally created for NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1978. Chavarria reinterprets the iconic design with fresh iterations like the Jabbar Low and Jabbar Dress, merging vintage basketball DNA with contemporary sophistication. The apparel lineup—featuring standout pieces such as the Chicano Sweatshirt, Wide Leg Trackpant, and Heavy Weight Hoodie—balances utilitarian functionality with elevated streetwear appeal.
A Campaign Celebrating Legacy and Identity
Shot by Mexican-American photographer Carlos Jaramillo, the SS25 campaign is a visual ode to Chicano culture, set against the backdrop of South Central Los Angeles. Featuring adidas athletes Candace Parker and Skyy Clark, alongside Mexican actor Alejandro Speitzer, the imagery explores themes of family, resilience, and generational pride. Chavarria describes the project as deeply personal, stating: “It allowed me to capture the beauty of our Brown brothers and sisters against the backdrop that is home to so many of us.”
An Immersive Launch Experience
To mark the collection’s debut, adidas and Chavarria hosted an exclusive event at adidas Melrose on May 8, transforming the space into a celebration of art, music, and community. Guests enjoyed custom tattoos by El Clasico, floral installations by Izza Rose, and authentic LA flavors from Leo’s Tacos, creating an atmosphere that mirrored the campaign’s vibrant energy.
Where to Find the Collection
The first drop launched May 8, with a second release following on July 10. Available via adidas.com, the CONFIRMED app, WillyChavarria.com, and select global retailers, the collection is a testament to the enduring influence of sport, culture, and storytelling in fashion.
This collaboration is more than just clothing—it’s a movement, honoring the past while shaping the future of streetwear.
