Sandy Liang SS26: An Ode to Self-Creation and Cherished Objects
By PAGE Editor
For her Spring Summer 2026 collection, Sandy Liang presents a deeply personal ode to self-creation, exploring how the tiny, cherished objects of our youth forge the adults we become. Titled an "ode to self-creation," the collection lives in the essential translation between object and replica, the tangible and fantasy, and childhood and the future.
Inspired by the reclusive heiress and artist Huguette Clark, who created her own world within her dollhouses, and animated films like The Secret Life of Arrietty and Thumbelina, Liang constructs a universe where personal history is worn on the sleeve—literally. The narrative unfolds in three acts.
First, fantasy, both larger and smaller than life. This is expressed through tabi shoes patterned with dancing bunnies and spring onions, and floral princess dresses defined by their construction. Liang introduces clothes for a "new generation of Chinatown grandmas," animated by the idea that personal style is less about the individual items and more about the unique, curated way you put yourself together.
Next, sweet objects are displayed like prized possessions. Moments of childhood are pressed into pouches on a buttery skirt or viewed through PVC windows, as if to declare, "This is what made me who I am." A lost button is found again, suddenly giant on the tip of a shoe. A clear slipper is covered in stickers. In these beloved objects, obsession creates singularity.
Finally, care instructions serve as poetic remembrances. Written on tags the size of a daily planner, they offer gentle commands like, “Ah, Forgive Me For My 1st Kiss” or “Be present and remember, always speak to yourself kindly.” These aren't typos but charming, unruly reflections on growth.
The collection argues that there will always be a gap between how the world sees you and how you are. But as Sandy Liang proves with profound charm, in that difference, there is infinite room to play.
