MARNI F/W 2025 VOL.1 – INTRODUCING THE COLLABORATION WITH SLAWN & SOLDIER
By PAGE Editor
Marni's creative vocation is once again expressed in the Fall/Winter Vol. 1 collection through the collaboration with artists Olaolu Slawn, Soldier Boyfriend, and Francesco Risso. Within a studio in East London, these artists have shared their urgency through a creative expression that is both collective and strongly individual.
The backgrounds of the three creatives have sparked a conversation that highlighted their points of contact, expressed on canvas through sharp and ambiguous symbolism. Satyrs and creatures evoking fairy tale traditions become the characters of a contemporary narrative that celebrates creative autonomy within complex societal systems, adopting a clever yet non-critical perspective.
The intense production, which took place in September 2024, materialized in large canvases that served as the backdrop for the collection's runway presented in Milan, and permeated the collection itself in the form of prints, motifs, and embroidery. The artistic residency involving the three artists has resulted in a large body of work, presented by Saatchi Yates under the title "The Pink Sun," and subsequently incorporated into the collection, exemplifying an authentic adjacency between increasingly interconnected forms of expression: art and fashion.
In this first release of the collection, the creativity of Francesco Risso, Olaulo Slawn, and Soldier Boyfriend extends across garments through few, powerful gestures. Wolves, tears, and tulips—along with other signifiers—punctuate the selection of shirts, shirtdresses, skirts, and boxer shorts in striped cotton poplin, in a succession of prints and applications that enhance their materiality.
The intarsia knitwear, in vibrant colors, faithfully evokes the rich texture of tempera paints, expressing through the yarns the artistic impulse that guided the artists during the residency. A soft brushed cotton jersey gives life to sweatshirts, t-shirts, and slouchy shorts, as well as bags that appear to be derived from large tank tops, hybridizing the features of a sports tank with the functionality of a tote bag.
Marni's stylistic language amalgamates the elements developed during the residency into a blend of colors, surfaces, and symbols that is expressed in an effortless yet powerfully expressive wardrobe.
The digital campaign presenting the collection concludes the creative ‘journey’ started last September. Captured in the shadows and sunlight of 4 Princelet Street, an old Georgian house layered with East London myths, the campaign sees Soldier and Slawn wearing the collection as memory and artifact.
The co-designed collection will be available at MARNI flagship stores, online at Marni.com, and at selected retailers across the world starting from July 1st 2025.
